The speed of a computer is an important part of a
system's TCO. The time an operator spends waiting for their
system is much more expensive that it might seem at first glance. If
you pay an operator $15 per hour and the computer wastes just 20
minutes a day of their time, that comes out to $1250 a year in wasted
man hours. If 20 minutes sounds high remember that simply
starting a Windows 98 computer can take more than 2 minutes.
Writing a CD on a 2x CD-R drive takes roughly a half hour! On
top of this is the fact that legacy computers can take much longer to
do intensive processing.
In many cases it is more than worth the money to
simply replace a legacy computer because of the immense time
savings. The example of $1250 per year is, in many cases, a
pretty conservative estimate. If your company has any employees
using computers 4 years old or more, it is just throwing money away.
Unfortunately not everyone has the cash on hand to
upgrade their computer. In order to get the most out of the
hardware that you have you can have MGI do a system cleanup for
$75.00. This includes disk integrity checking, hard drive
cleanup, memory swap file adjustment, disk defragmentation, and,
if desired, a startup file cleanup (this prevents unwanted files from
starting with your system, speeding up system startup and conserving
system resources).
